I know there are a ton of awesome Dads among my friends here today, so Happy Father's Day to one and all (even if you do love '90's Grateful Dead).

I'm looking at pics and reminiscing about the births of my two kids in Kona Hospital in Hawaii. They were both born to the sounds of Mickey Hart's "Music To Be Born To". Our doctor, who was Filipino thought it was a horrible noise. He spoke very broken english and any time he wanted to say anything he would announce :Doctor Talk Now".

Hey Big Bad Wolf Dad! Hope your day is going well. I have to say that I've yet to see any evidence of this hand and foot stuff you mention around here. Pretty much being left to my own devices as per usual. Well I shall amuse myself by putting on some good tunes while I cook up a big roast lamb dinner to feed the family. That's the kind of thing that keeps me happy!

Happy Father's Day to all the forum fathers.

Same to all here. I'm taking my 9 year old to the park in about 90 minutes to catch Moonalice, so that's my "gift" back to her/me.

Pretty damn good!

This reflects the huge crowd in attendance:

I walk by the camera at 1:05.

Sears, Molo and Sless were all really good. Steve Parrish introduced the band and made a couple of comments; he must live close by or something. Got to hang and talk with everyone a bit before the show but had to leave before the final song. My daughter got big smiles from the stage when Sears was introduced to sign a song "he didn't write but with which he has a spiritual connection" and as they started Stella Blue my daughter says loud enough for all to hear, "Dad, it's a Jerry song!".

I was quite impressed. I wouldn't drive a long way to see them, but they are all great musicians and are a hell of a great time and you can tell they thoroughly enjoy themselves when they play. I still can't understand why they were playing a free show at a crafts' festival for, at most, around 100 people, and really more like 40 that were paying attention. They did make a few folks walk over from shuttle bus stop for US Open to hear some tunes before catching next bus.

holy cow I was all braced to get frightened at 105 but it's only the back of your head j/k of course

yeah that turn out is worse than spinal tap, sad. I mean even for a craft fair alone the turn out is sad. Maybe they'll come up here again. Last time I was really bummed I missed it because Casady was playing with them but it was a school night not to mention the library theater? I'd rather see something like that outdoors.

That's great about your daughter. Mine has for quite some time ago made it a point to distance herself FAR away from any of Dads " crappy" music.

Happy Belated Father's Day to all you Dads out there.

took my 10 & 7 year olds on a long bike ride, then set up the hose like a sprinkler for them in the back yard

All had a good day.

Let us praise those fathers who have striven to balance the demands of work, marriage, and children with an honest awareness of both joy and sacrifice. Let us praise those fathers who, lacking a good model for a father, have worked to become a good father.

Let us praise those fathers who by their own account were not always there for their children, but who continue to offer those children, now grown, their love and support. Let us pray for those fathers who have been wounded by the neglect and hostility of their children.

Let us praise those fathers who, despite divorce, have remained in their children's lives. Let us praise those fathers whose children are adopted, and whose love and support has offered healing.

Let us praise those fathers who, as stepfathers, freely choose the obligation of fatherhood and earned their step children's love and respect. Let us praise those fathers who have lost a child to death, and continue to hold the child in their heart.

Let us praise those men who have no children, but cherish the next generation as if they were their own.

Let us praise those men who have "fathered" us in their role as mentors and guides.

Let us praise those men who are about to become fathers; may they openly delight in their children.

And let us praise those fathers who have died, but live on in our memory and whose love continues to nurture us. Amen

(Kirk Loadman-Copeland, senior minister of the First Universalist Church of Denver).
